Faces Too Close Perceived As Less Attractive, Trustworthy, And Competent

Attraction and competence change from distance to distance, so to say. They are not the same even if it is the same person. Results of a survey show that the perception of attraction and competence change the closer you get to someone. In addition to these results one could say attraction and competence are not fixed characters or features. These results also show how important the individual perception, one`s own awareness is. It also points out that these characters are directly influenced by nonverbal communication…………….if you are interested have a look into the following link.

Chinese manager really under stress (video) – managers` nonverbal behavior patterns on stage – 5

under stressThis Chinese manager is asked again for the third time, to give a certain answer. He knows how the panel functions and yet though there is a good simultaneous translation he utters towards the moderator to repeat the question. He does this for three times though the question was very clearly expressed. And then suddenly he started answering, though the moderator did not repeat the question again. It seemed that the Chinese manager had to get accustomed to the stress situation, being asked. ( though he knew that he was asked )

And he does not only utter with words but also with his body-language. He looks …………………

Longing for culture and love – Chinese students in Germany

Friends of mine produced a little film on: How Chinese students live in Germany and experience the new culture which is not at all familiar to them. At the same time the film shows how Chinese students study, work, play and love far away from their home country.

It is a film worth to be seen though it is only about four minutes long.

Chinese Students talk about their daily life. The Chinese students are to be seen in typical scenes with their professor, with colleagues, playing music, enjoying their meals, talking about friendship and love and remembering their homes, their emotional and cultural roots when talking to their mothers via skype.

Being in Germany helps to……….

Touched by the shadow

The dark red rose decorates a little girl’s hand while the girl’s eyes dive into the rose’s flavor. Both, the girl and the dark red rose, form a meaningful unit of presence, awareness, being in touch with each other and thus creating reality.

The girl of course is in love with this little boy whose shadow leans towards her. It is an emotional reality with the unspoken message “You’re here when you’re not here. You’re here when I want you to be here and you are near when I’m aware of this beautiful dark rose.”

Of course one would say the little boy is not there. It is……………………

Let’s think about relationship

Let’s think about being a little girl, a little child and being old and growing down to the earth. These two people, the smart little girl and the old (bowed?) woman represent relationship in so far as the child is aware of the people around her but does not have to be always engaged with these people. The child goes out to his own future and …………

Interrupting Communication 2

To begin with: Between China and western countries I think there is a big and important difference in living feelings, (cognitive) demands, (self-) control, a relationship and love. A difference which produces a lot irritation, disappointment, sadness, anger, hope and felling lost on the one hand or dependent on the other.

A week ago a friend of mine told me about his experience when the communication between his Chinese girl-friend and him was interrupted in a way which he could not understand and follow. They had had a relationship for say about one and a half years and they had been really in love with each other. After the relationship broke, they decided to go on being good friends but without a love-friendship. Both agreed ……………..

Gender imbalance or: love has to be an effective and efficient project

Though this info dates back to 2010 it is more or less very up to date. The actuality even grows from year to year. The severe consequences for men and women in China will also grow from year to year. All this has of course a deep impact on (nonverbal) communication and relationship in China. Probably also among Chinese in other countries.

Remembering some Chinese talking about looking for or finding a man or a woman, or being found and chosen leads to peculiar and strange behavior between the sexes. For example, talking about this life issue often is connected to the perspective of having more or less a chance to find someone or to be found by someone. Looking for a relationship, trying to find someone to relate to and to fall in love with is ……………

Tattoo and shame

It happened about two weeks ago when I travelled by underground in Berlin. It was a hot summer day. People wore light clothing so that I could see very clearly that someone sitting opposite to me had a tattoo on his shoulder. The man sitting together obviously with his girlfriend, arm in arm, had many very colourful and artificial painted tattoos on his shoulder and his neck. I began to look more intensely to those tattoos and tried to find out what they symbolised, and what the symbols were saying to me.

When it happened just on a sudden that this man addressed me obviously quite aggressive with the words: “Why are you staring at me? What are you looking for?” Meanwhile his girl-friend tried to cover her own tattoo. You can imagine how astonished I was about this reaction. I felt very friendly looking, I felt in a good mood admiring those paintings on the body. And I felt very interested in trying to decrypt the shown symbols.

Of course I right away realized the slightly aggressive tone in the man’s voice. Of course I felt rejected ………….

The first impression 2

The first impression influences the relationship you can call it the chemistry between the people. It “defines” if you like someone or not.
This first impression is very resistant to “good arguments”. If you e.g. like someone  by the first impression you will not be easily convinced by others and “good arguments” that this person is as good or as competent as you feel it from the point of view of the first impression. This functions also in the other way around: if you do not like sommeone from the first impression, there is quite a lot of resistance to arguments which try to convince you about the opposite.

Even if the first impression is so important you can never train or prepare well enough for this moment. It happens as it happens. It is as it is. The only way you can prepare a bit is to be open for this dynamic, for this to happen and for this to occur.

So one important step you can do is, to at least let youself  fall down in the situation you are in. To give in to your feelings, to your way of keeping up grounding in the moment you are in.
And don’t forget: There is never a second chance for the first impression 😉

But also be sure, that another first impression can occur. Be open for it and do not feel too desparately. This what happens is human. And this happens to everybody around you.
