13 Habits Of Exceptionally Likable People

Too many people succumb to the mistaken belief that being likable comes from natural, unteachable traits that belong only to a lucky few—the good looking, the fiercely social, and the incredibly talented. It’s easy to fall prey to this misconception. In reality, being likable is under your control, and it’s a matter of emotional intelligence (EQ).

In a study conducted at UCLA, subjects rated over 500 adjectives based on their perceived significance to likability. The top-rated adjectives had….read more here:

What is narcissism?

In way too short, narcissism is a set of coping mechanisms and strategies to deal with unstable self-esteem and low capacity for empathy that results from unmet interpersonal needs in childhood.

Sartre and existentialism

Sartre was certainly the most famous French writer, as well as one of the best-known living philosophers. Introducing Sartre explains the basic ideas inspiring his world view, and pays particular attention to his idea of freedom. It also places his thinking on literature in the context of the 20th century debate on its nature and function. It examines his ideas on Marxism, his enthusiasm for the student rebellion of 1968, and his support for movements of national liberation in the Third World. The book also provides a succinct account of his life, and especially of the impact which his unusual childhood had on his attitude towards French Society.

Winnicott`s birthday today

Winnicott conceptualized the psyche of the child as developing in relation to a real, influential parent. Winnicott’s theory is especially innovative regarding his conceptualization of the psychic space between the mother and Infant….read more

China and the relevance of money for the people instead of relating to one another

Tonight you can see a documentary film about suicide in China, which is really worth looking. It is made by the Chinese Lola Jia Liu and shows how Chen Si saves the life of hundreds of people who try to commit suicide on the bridge of Nanjing. She paints very clear and sensible portraits without making any comment. The people just talk about themselves. This is really astonishing and overwhelming.

Jia Liu points out that suicide is a social problem not mearly a psychic problem. She also …………..

The purpose of depression

Paul Andrews, an evolutionary psychologist at McMaster University in Canada argues that depression may be “an adaptation for analyzing complex problems.” He sees it in the condition’s bouquet of symptoms, which include “anhedonia,” or an inability to feel much pleasure; people who are depressed ruminate frequently, often in spirals; and they get more REM sleep, a phase associated with memory consolidation. This reflects an evolutionary design, the argument goes, one that’s to, as Hutson summarizes, “pull us away from the normal pursuits of life and focus us on understanding or solving the one underlying problem that triggered the depressive episode.” Like, say, a “failed” relationship. The episode, then, is a sort of altered state, one different from the hum of daily life, one that’s supposed to get you to pay attention to whatever wounding led to the upset. For example, 80 percent of subjects in a 61-person study of depression found that they perceived some benefit from rumination, mostly assessing problems and preventing future mistakes.

How to improve project-based learning

In today’s educational environment, students are expected to collaborate, think critically, and work together to develop innovative projects and answers to complex questions. But the gains in student engagement and achievement are immeasurable.

In general there’s a good support for project-based learning if you take the four suggestions which will follow now as a guideline:

  • Begin at the end
  • Help students to develop questions
  • Help students to think like an expert
  • Help students to present, to publish and to perform

This kind of project-based learning is also a fun-way for teachers and students to facilitate learning and to be self-engaged.
