More about selfie and self trust

A lot is said about selfies, about making selfies and the function of selfies. Here is another aspect. A selfie serves to more deeply entrench the sexual objectification of women and girls and that one looses the control of the self-image once it’s shared online.

Others criticize the apparent narcissism aspect.

One could also say and here we have new sociological research being done that making a selfie also is some kind of democratic nature because it holds liberatory potential. Those, who are not well presented in media obviously like to make selfies because it has a value for them. The value of being represented in media.

Because those who feel more self trust are more easily present in media.

One´s own body as private, emotional currency

Do you know what a temporary boy-friend is? Have a look at the link at the end of this post. I came across this information some weeks ago: A young woman, looking for a boy-friend, to accompany her on her journey through China. To be the travel-partner was meant to accompany her and to pay for her. The young woman said that she did not have any income and she did not want to “suffer” during her tours. So, she offered herself “all day and to spent the night with him”.

This weird story and weird offer was a fake.

Why do I post this fake? Even if this did not happen in reality, the fantasy ……….

Gesture and words

Spontaneous gestures can help children to learn whether they use spoken language or sign-language. This is an important result of a new report.

It’s really interesting and important that the reported findings make clear that children have an understanding of the notions before they are able to express themselves in speech. Notion means here a gesture plus word-combination.

Children learn this from their parents. This of course, and this is another result, has been found with children who learn sign-language from their parents. Even deaf children who were not able to learn a spoken language learn a sign-language, so to say a homemade gesture-system in order to communicate.

A hug heals heartbeat and blood pressure

Of course you know how much you like a hug. Of course you remember how it felt like the last time. But did you know that a hug heals heartproblems, reduces high blood-pressure?

In older times people knew about that. They of course did not know this connection on the physical level,  but just by doing it. In our times a hug often is done without really being touched inside. We hug one another because people usually do so. We hug one another because others expect it from me. We hug each other because…..

Faces of soldiers: you cannot NOT be touched

It seems that war rules the world at many places. War is done by people. People have faces, faces which mirror the state of feeling before the war, during the war and after the war.

The photographer Lalage Snow has shared powerful series of photos showing the transformative faces of service men who had been in Afghanistan. The photos show significant differences in the three states of being. They show personal and psychological differences. Interesting is that the face by itself just look. At one face you don’t realise important differences. But when you put the three faces together you’re overwhelmed and even deeply touched by the relevance of these differences.

Lalage Snow does not have a special message as he said, but he said maybe the photos and the faces speak for themselves.

Look at those attractive and mysterious faces. They will make you want to keep looking.

Baby’s cry identified by a digital decoder

Scientists from Taiwan have developed an app which can decode information based on a baby’s cry with an accuracy of 92 %. No you’re able to distinguish subtle differences in crying and acoustic signals of babies under one year old.

The crying analyzer app can indicate whether a baby is hungry, sleepy, unwell, stressed due to a noisy environment, in pain, or in discomfort because of a wet diaper.

On the one hand you can argue that ……

Sex is gender and “not” sex

From a very early age on we can decipher sex, sexuality and the differences in detail. Some days ago I came across a little investigation on this competence. I was astonished about one result:

If you look at the picture above you maybe ask if you know the difference between the individuals pictured are male or female. Most of the people are able to decipher by ……..

Fatherland, Motherland and Otherland

Pet or Child?

Last week I was told a story which is not so unusual I think. A colleague of mine visited Germany for a training course. Her mother was supposed to come to Germany right after the last day of the training course. Mother and daughter then wanted to travel around in Europe and have a nice time together.

Unfortunately it did not happen to be so!

Without any obvious regret ……..
