The photographer Christoph Mohr who visited China for several times within the last years uses this lucky number as structure of his photo-exhibition in Cologne/Germany.

Mohr’s photo-exhibition is part of the big festival in Cologne/Germany in celebration of the China-year in Germany.

Mohr structures his exhibition of wonderful photos by using the lucky #8. That means 8 photos as portraits of 8 different cities/provinces.

Longing for culture and love – Chinese students in Germany

Friends of mine produced a little film on: How Chinese students live in Germany and experience the new culture which is not at all familiar to them. At the same time the film shows how Chinese students study, work, play and love far away from their home country.

It is a film worth to be seen though it is only about four minutes long.

Chinese Students talk about their daily life. The Chinese students are to be seen in typical scenes with their professor, with colleagues, playing music, enjoying their meals, talking about friendship and love and remembering their homes, their emotional and cultural roots when talking to their mothers via skype.

I know about one big handicape of my blog. It is the language. It took me some time to find my decision,namely to choose English and not German or Chinese or any other language.

English is ranked as world language number One. It is spoken all over the world. But not everybody of course speaks English. And even when someone has learnt English at shool, maybe he or she is not familiar in speaking the language.

some days ago I by chance visited an open air festival of the German-Indonesian society in Cologne. Delicious meals, nice presents to buy, music, friendly talking people and the chance to have a little neck massage. It was a woman from the isle of Bali who offered the massage. She all about the ancient tradition of Balinese massage so I was glad to have again the chance to get such a good massage.
While doing the massage she talked about her life. She had some children, grand children and grandmother in the age of 93 who lived on Bali.

When I visited India for the first time I really enjoyed nature, culture and of course the people. Especially in South-India, where I stayed for quite a long time, I always felt invited when visiting little villages or asking for a cup of tea in some family-house. They served English tea of course, that means strong tea with a lot of milk and sugar. I like English tea, it feels so smooth in the mouth. 😉

I love this sweetness of English tea and was really glad, that this kind of tea would be served within a minute. But one day within a second I felt shocked by the Indian version of the English tea. Of course they served strong tea with milk and sugar, but the milk ………………

Here is a link to some little subgroup in Germany where they discuss Chinese tattooing. They are interested in the meaning of various tattoos, argue about the corect writing of the graphics andsoon. It`s of course not an important subgroup or action in which they are engaged.

I pick up this link and communicate it, not in order to invite you to get your own tattoo. ( You must know I come from the times where only sailors or criminals had their tattoos ;-)) No I want to underline that there can be some activity group in the one culture w ich is totally engaged in some cultural practice of a totally different culture.

Maybe you know about those littel cultural islands. I once heard for example that there is an Austrian or Bavarian village totally rebuild in China somewhere. Or that they celebrate the German carneval in some Chinese Metrople. Or that there is Chinese Carneval Club in Bonn / Germany.

I wonder how those little islands will develop and build up some kind of grass root integration. 😉

By chance I had a visit to the Chinese Garden at the Bochum University. It is a bit more than one thousand squaremeters big and it seems to be a little diamond in the big industrial area where I live.

A special treasure within the Botanical Garden is the Chinese Garden Qian Yuan, a classical southern Chinese scholar’s garden donated to the Ruhr University in 1990 by Bochum`s partner university, the Tongji University of Shanghai.

Probably you do not know “my” NEMO. Probably you do know Nemo from Jules Verne. Probably you do know Nemo from Walt Disney.

Well “my” NEMO is a pantomime, an actor who is on stage, or shall I better say, is in life without words. He is a “Stummspieler”, as he presents himself. An actor who is just there. And being there as he is, as he embodies himself, as he embodies life, is the message. Just without words.
